XXXIX. Ques. What is the duty which God requireth of man?
Ans. The duty which God requireth of man is obedience to his revealed will.
제 39 문 : 하나님께서 인간에게 요구하는 의무는 무엇입니까?
답 : 하나님께서 인간에게 요구하시는 의무는 계시하신 뜻에 순종하는 것입니다.
Q. 1. Upon what account is obedience unto God the duty of man?
A. Obedience unto God is the duty of man, because God is his Creator, and Benefactor, and supreme Sovereign Lord and King.
Q1. 인간의 의무가 하나님께 순종이라는 것은 무슨 내용입니까?
A. 인간의 의무가 하나님께 순종이라는 것은, 하나님이 창조주이시며 복의 근원(Benefactor)으로 최고의 통치자로서 주이시며 왕이시기 때문입니다.
Q. 2. Is there any other Lord over the conscience, who can require obedience of men for their own sake chiefly, besides God?
A. God is the only Lord of the conscience; and though we are to obey magistrates, and parents, and masters, yet we are chiefly to do this because God requireth us so to do; and if they command us to do anything which God doth forbid, we are to refuse obedience, being to obey God rather than any man in the world. "Whether it be right in
the sight of God to hearken unto you rather than unto God, judge ye." --Acts 4:19.
Q2. 하나님을 떠나 인간의 양심을 통치하며 인간에게 순종을 요구할 수 있는 어떤 다른 주가 있습니까?
A. 하나님만이 양심을 통치하는 유일한 주님이십니다. 비록 우리는 정부 관리들, 부모님과 주인에게 순종해야 하지만, 우리가 [그들에게 순종하는 것은] 하나님께서 우리에게 그렇게 행하기를 요구하시기 때문에 행하는 것이다. 그러나 만약 그들이 하나님께서 금지하신 어떤 것을 행하라고 우리에게 요구한다면, 우리는 하나님께 순종해야 하기 때문에 세상의 어떤 누구의 명령에 순종하기를 거부해야 합니다. “하나님 앞에서 너희의 말을 듣는 것이 하나님의 말씀을 듣는 것보다 옳은가 판단하라”(행 4:19).
Q. 3. What rule hath God given us, according to which our whole obedience must be guided?
A. The only rule which God hath given us, according to which our whole obedience unto him must be guided, is his revealed will.

A. 하나님께서 우리에게 주어진 법칙은, 그것에 따라 온전히 순종하게 하셨는데, 하나님께서 계시한 의지(뜻)입니다.
Q. 4. Hath God any other will than that which he hath revealed?
A. God hath a secret will of his counsel concerning all things which come to pass, and this cannot be known as to most things beforehand, and therefore is no rule for our obedience.
Q4. 하나님께서 계시하셨던 뜻 이외에 다른 어떤 뜻을 갖고 계십니까?
A. 하나님께서는 만물에 대한 경륜에서 은밀한 뜻을 갖고 계시며, 이것은 최상의 것이지만 미리 알 수 없는데, 그것은 우리가 순종해야 할 규칙이 아닙니다.
Q. 5. What is the difference between God's secret will and God's revealed will?
A. God's secret will is concerning all things that are done, and shall be done; and doth extend even unto sinful actions, which he doth will to permit, and determine, and direct beyond man's will and intention, to his own glory. But God's revealed will is concerning those things which may and ought to be done, and doth extend only unto those things which are duty, and which in themselves do tend to God's glory; and this revealed will is the rule of man's obedience.
Q5. 하나님의 은밀한 뜻과 계시된 뜻 사이에 차이점은 무엇입니까?
A. 하나님의 은밀한 뜻은 행해지고 있고 행해질 모든 일들에 관한 것입니다. 하나님께서 자기 영광을 위해 인간의 의지나 의도를 넘어서 허용하시고 결정하시고 인도하시는 바 죄된 행위까지 포함합니다. 그러나 하나님의 계시된 뜻은 행해야만 하는 모든 일들에 관계하며 의무가 되는 것들과 하나님의 영광과 직결되는 모든 것들에 대한 내용입니다. 계시된 [하나님의] 뜻은 인간이 순종해야 할 유일한 규칙입니다.
Q. 6. Where is the revealed will of God to be found?
A. The revealed will of God is to be found in the Scriptures, where the whole duty of man to God is made known. "He hath showed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to o justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?" -- Micah 6:8.
Q6. 하나님의 계시된 뜻은 어디에서 찾습니까?
A. 하나님의 계시된 뜻은 성경에서 찾습니다. 성경 안에 하나님께 인간[자기 백성]에게 요구하시는 모든 의무를 제시하고 있습니다. “사람아 주께서 선한 것이 무엇임을 네게 보이셨나니 여호와께서 네게 구하시는 것은 오직 정의를 행하며 인자를 사랑하며 겸손하게 네 하나님과 함께 행하는 것이 아니냐”(미 6:8).
